March Is For The Girls - Spirit of Revolt
March kicked off Women's History Month in full force. This month represents a celebration for historical and present day accomplishments made by women and the continuing efforts to create gender equality across all communities/economies across the world. On top of that, March 8th marks an entire day dedicated to celebrating. 2020's theme for International Women's Day was #EachForEqual , a campaign stemming off the notion of how individual actions make up collective actions that drive change. At the local level in Chicago, Revolution Brewing gathered up their female employees to brew some beer and celebrate/help their community.
Revolution has made 'Spirit of Revolt' since 2018 in celebration of their female employees. This imperial IPA with oats packs a solid punch at 8.2%. The neon purple can is decked out with a design by one of their bartenders, meant to symbolize every woman in Chicago beer. A portion of the proceeds went to the Connections for Abused Women and their Children. This year, they were able to raise $25,000 and presented them with a check at their event celebrating the beer release. Over the past two years, they've been able to donate $45,000 (not including this year).

Additionally, they partnered with the "Ladies Of Logan", a group inspired to highlight the Logan Square neighborhood’s women entrepreneurs to run a pop-up market in the tap room. Vendors ranged from handmade jewelry, baked goods, clothing, on-site haircuts, and coffee roasters.
My biggest takeaways from this event were as follows:
1. It was cool as fuck to look around the brewery and be surrounded by tons of women who also love beer.
2. Woman or not, Chicago came together to support philanthropy and a local business that directly impacts a greater cause. Standing together and supporting each other is so easy (and fun) and I hope to see more of it throughout the year!
They're still selling four packs of Spirit of Revolt still with their curbside pick-up packages if you haven't given it a try - along with some other gems that are great social distancing companions. You can place your orders here for curbside pick up! Check out some other pics from the event on my Instagram as well @beerandthebaker.
